Effort to Promote 'Green' Strategic Research

Green research holds the key to understanding climate changes and gives the answer to how we can solve some of the challenges. With a political agreement, more than DKK 700 million will be allocated to green research, allowing Denmark to remain one of the international leaders in this area

A total of DKK 200 million will be allocated in 2010, DKK 242 million in 2011, and DKK 277 million in 2012, for an overall effort to promote 'green' strategic research.

Bioresources, foods and other biological products

DKK 50 million will be allocated in 2010, DKK 50 million in 2011, and DKK 70 million in 2012, for research into 'Bioresources, foods and other biological products'. Research may for example contribute knowledge on sustainable utilisation of natural resources in food production, including organic production. Research may also contribute knowledge on quality foods, human and animal health and well-being, including the role of foods in preventing lifestyle diseases.

Climate and climate adaptation

DKK 20 million will be allocated in 2010, DKK 20 million in 2011, and DKK 20 million in 2012, for research into 'Climate and climate adaptation', including continuation of the research coordinating activities under the climate adaptation unit at the University of Aarhus.

Research in climate can contribute knowledge on the extent and rate of the climate changes and the changes in various parts of the world.

Climate Research Centre in Greenland

DKK 20 million will be allocated in 2011, and DKK 20 million in 2012, for continuing the Climate Research Centre in Greenland. The Centre is interdisciplinary, focusing on climate adaptation in the Arctic regions.

Green transport

DKK 30 million will be allocated in 2010, DKK 30 million in 2011, and DKK 30 million in 2012, for 'Green transport' which may involve research into transport systems and reduction of CO2 from the transport sector, including the maritime area, while maintaining mobility.

Environmental technology

DKK 12 million will be allocated in 2011, and DKK 17 million in 2012, for research into environmentally efficient technologies, which may contribute to developing technologies that have less impact on the environment than existing technologies, and to preventing environmental problems.

Green Lab dk - test facilities for climate technologies

DKK 60 million will be allocated in 2010, DKK 70 million in 2011, and DKK 80 million in 2012, for 'Green Lab dk', which consists of government funding (less operation) for a minor number of test facilities in strategic areas where enterprises may demonstrate and test new climate technologies under realistic circumstances on a large scale.

Ecology and GDDP

DKK 40 million will be allocated in 2010, DKK 40 million in 2011, and DKK 40 million in 2012, for a Green Development and Demonstration Programme (GDDP), including promotion of research and innovation within ecology, following consultation with the International Centre for Research in Organic Food Systems (ICROFS).
