Denmark Leading Nordic Research Cooperation – Norden2010

The Danish Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers concluded at the end of 2010. The following outlines the status of the year-long presidency in the areas of education and research.

As the Science Ministry takes stock of the year, we can ascertain that Denmark has done quite well. Many initiatives have been successfully completed and other long-term projects will be furthered by the Finnish presidency in 2011.

The items on the Danish agenda during the Presidency have been relevant to both the Nordic countries and Europe. Denmark has worked hard to connect Nordic and European agendas so we can use Nordic cooperation as a platform to encourage visibility and synergy on a European level.

Denmark has focused on highlighting the Nordic countries as an attractive region for education and research. Nordic positions of strength in education and research fields will continue to be profiled via a survey of Nordic higher education institutions and their placement in the European classification system, U-map.

Within research, there has been focus on developing further cooperation through the Nordic research and innovation project NORIA. Furthermore, a project has been implemented that will create more effective procedures for research cooperation under the auspices of the Nordic Council of Ministers.
