Digitalisation improves the bottom line

If the share of Danish businesses that digitalised at least one internal function increased by 1 percentage point, it would add up to DKK 6.5 billion in value annually to the entire private sector.

A new study from the Science Ministry and the CBS research unit – the Centre for Economic and Business Research – shows that simple internal digitalisation initiatives have significant influence on a business's growth. An example of digitalising internal functions could be that the stock control, accounting and distributions systems automatically notify each other to simplify working procedures.

– The study shows the great growth potential that can be unlocked through increased digitalisation. I encourage Danish businesses to consider how they can use digitalisation opportunities even more, and for those businesses which are not yet digitalised – I encourage them to get started, says Science Minister Charlotte Sahl-Madsen.

In 2010, the science minister presented the Digital Paths to Growth programme, which included the digital growth package as one of the initiatives. The package will support the use of digital solutions in small and medium sized businesses.

– Trade organisations and others clearly must help to spread the message. I have already ensured that these organisations are made aware of the report so that we may discuss the conclusions when I meet with representatives from the business community, says Science Minister Charlotte Sahl-Madsen.

The Government recently published its joint digitalisation strategy in collaboration with Danish Regions and Local Government Denmark. The strategy includes a number of initiatives to simplify the business process in Denmark. Reporting to and communicating with public services must be made easier. Finally, it will also be made easier for smaller businesses in particular to navigate the administrative procedures when hiring new employees.
