First grants awarded for schools research
The first six PhD grants for education research have been awarded. And later in 2012, there is a further DKK 28 million allotted to new research projects focusing on the Danish school system.

EU presents proposal for new framework programme – Horizon 2020
The European Commission presented its proposal for Horizon 2020 on December 1st – the new framework programme for research and innovation that will be in effect for 2014-2020. The negotiations for Horizon 2020 will begin during the Danish EU Presidency in the first half of 2012.

Morten Østergaard met with a delegation from the European Parliament's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) led by chairman Herbert Reul on November 24th 2011.
New EU education programme to enhance mobility
The European Commission has presented a proposal for a new education programme entitled “Erasmus for All”, bringing together all EU education schemes. The Commission is paving the way for a considerable increase in the budget to promote student mobility and European educational cooperation.

Successful enrolment figures for 2011
The final figures are in and annual enrolment figures for higher education are up 10 per cent compared to 2010. As such, Denmark moves a step closer to acheiving the government's objective of 60 percent of a youth cohort receiving a higher education.
Reorganisation of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education
With higher education gathered under the remit of the Higher Education Ministry, the ministry itself has been reorganised.
New name: Higher Education Ministry
The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education will informally be known as the Higher Education Ministry, while Morten Østergaard will be known as the Higher Education Minister.

Morten Østergaard (Social Liberal Party) is the new minister for research, innovation and higher education. He takes over the Science Ministry from the incumbent minister Charlotte Sahl-Madsen (Conservative Party).
Digitalisation improves the bottom line
If the share of Danish businesses that digitalised at least one internal function increased by 1 percentage point, it would add up to DKK 6.5 billion in value annually to the entire private sector.
All applications to be digital by 2012
University applicants must apply digitally from next year. The science minister believes that young people have the necessary competences and universities must be at the forefront of digitalisation.
