Expo Creating Interest in Danish Energy Technology
In connection with the Expo2010 Exhibition in Shanghai, the National IT and Telecom Agency presented "Villa Watt" – a demonstration model showing how IT control can reduce energy consumption in private homes very markedly.
The Chinese Fudan University got so interested in the presentation that they asked to borrow the demonstration model. The intention is to exhibit it for another three months at the University itself, where it will be used partly for creating a dialogue between Danish and Chinese researchers, and partly as an inspiration for developing interfaces and hardware for smart grid solutions.
– It is gratifying to see that interest in the model has been so great in China. China is facing major challenges in terms of making their housing stock more energy efficient. Here, Denmark has a traditional position of strength, and I hope that the new collaboration can contribute to creating new knowledge and jobs for Danish companies, says Charlotte Sahl-Madsen.

To Danish companies, the Chinese market for green technologies is a very interesting one.
– China is planning investments in smart grid solutions worth USD 586 million up to 2020, explains Morten Bangsgaard, Managing Director of the Danish IT Industry Association, which is one of the partners behind Villa Watt.
– This gives a potential for further export of clean tech solutions that we must aim to realise within the industry.
