Denmark Ranking High in E-Readiness

This year Denmark comes in second in IBM and the Economist Intelligence Unit's international survey of how 70 countries perform in converting digital opportunities to social and economic development.

Recently, IBM and the Economist Intelligence Unit published their annual "Digital Economy Rankings" for 2010 – previously known as "E-readiness Rankings". The survey is a benchmark study of the "e-readiness" of 70 different countries – i.e. how the countries perform in converting digital opportunities to social and economic development.

This year, Denmark is in second place, which means one step down after last year's leading place. Sweden comes in first in very close competition with other top-ranked countries.

– I am of course pleased to see that Denmark continues to have a fine performance. But only if we maintain a targeted focus on digital development can we keep Denmark in a leading position. Denmark's high ranking is due not least to the widespread use of digital solutions in Denmark, and the fact that by international standards the Danish population has good competencies in using the digital potential, says Science Minister Charlotte Sahl-Madsen.

– I have just launched the work programme "Digital Roads to Growth", which has a direct focus on creating ICT-based growth and ensuring the continued widespread use of ICT by the population, says Science Minister Charlotte Sahl-Madsen.

– With a broadband target of 100 Mbit/s for all citizens, the Danish Government has made a dedicated effort to ensure that Denmark retains its position as an e-ready economy ranking among the best in the world, adds Charlotte Sahl-Madsen.
